        The clear plastic egg carton we use does not involve the use of virgin materials, but is made from 100% recycled materials.  It is made from recycled PETE plastic, a combination of post-industrial and post-consumer plastic, such as clear pop bottles, all types of water bottles, as well as the clear egg carton itself. These pop bottles are ground into fine pieces of plastic and then melted again to form plastic sheets that are molded into egg cartons, which are then also 100% recyclable.  

        PETE plastic is a popular material to package food and non-food products because it is inexpensive, lightweight, resealable, shatter-resistant, and recyclable.  It is commonly used to package soft drinks, water, juices, peanut butter, salad dressings, and, of course, egg cartons.  Because it is lightweight, durable, and easy to form, it enables manufacturers to minimize on the material used, the energy consumed, and the waste generated in production.

        PETE plastic is labeled with the #1 recycling code and is accepted in most municipal recycling programs, whether it is curbside or a drop-off system.
